governed by State law. Given that, can a skip be arrested on Federal
property--such as a Federal Courthouse?

Les,
- That is a great question- yes, fugitive recovery is
governed by State law and you can have defendants picked up on Federal
property, but I should explain.
-
- In the scenario you provide- I would simply approach
the Marshals at the courthouse and explain to them the situation. Most
likely they will pick the person up (they need a little excitement and
something to break their very boring routine too) and turn the skip
over to their local LE contacts; very rarely will they then turn the
defendant over to us once he/she is in their custody- which is fine...
the end result is that the defendant is in custody again.
-
- The same holds true with military bases.
-
- The most important note here is that if you are
normally going to carry a concealed firearm while working (in
accordance with State law) don't forget to leave it legally secured in
your vehicle while in the courthouse or AT HOME if you are going to a
military base.
